ACTION ITEMS
We are in the process of updating older petitions used by the ADC. When the udpates are completed by the End of December 2011, we will put them online for your convenience. Please feel free to print them out, sign and return to the ADC or to your local, state and federal elected officials. It is important that our voices be heard on these critical issues. If you have any questions please contact the ADC.
There is a toll-free telephone number where you can reach any of your elected officials in Washington, D.C. (1-866) 220-0044
Many people contact the ADC or Californiaskywatch with asking what they can do to help or take action. The first line of defense is knowing your subject well - education. It is separating out the facts from the fiction, then educating others and then petitioning and educating your elected officials at every level. It is writing letters to the editors of local newspapers, it is educating environmental groups who may know nothing about these topics, it is encouraging all political parties to adopt these issues in their platforms, and it is presenting this information to a vast array of individuals and groups in order to gain their support as well.
It is being able to give a 15-20 minute presentation using facts...and not just using opinions that cannot be backed up with facts. Opinions have their place but are not going to convince others to take action or to believe what you have to say. It is presenting the facts and using your voice to explain the issues to others-to tell a factual interesting story.
Action requires moving forward with radio interviews, contacting newpaper reporters, and television stations asking them to cover these issues. If you use only opinions you will find your voice marginalized or ignored. It comes down to making a good case for what you can prove backed up by documents and other facts that would hold up in a court of law. And it involves asking good questions.
When we grow frustrated and feel that we can do nothing...then we vote for continuing with the status quo. In taking action our positive energies take us forward and we meet others who share the same committment and are willing to take action. (Quiet frustration or blogging frustrations on the Internet are not action items...and in most cases only unite people in expressing frustrations...rarely producing any positive action outside of the blogs.) It is only when we unite with others in person, take positive action and education that change takes place.
The ADC encourages everyone to take positive action and to contact us anytime for support and information.
