CALIFORNIA GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 54950-54963 – Section 54950.  “…In enacting this chapter, the Legislature finds and declares that the public commissions, boards and councils and the other public agencies in this State exist to aid in the conduct of the people's business. It is the intent of the law that their actions be taken openly and that their deliberations be conducted openly.  The people of this State do not yield their sovereignty to the agencies which serve them. The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created...”

Mendocino County is one of best places to live for a wide variety of reasons.  There are many issues that face us here, just like in other areas of California.

Mendocino County Air Pollution - Learn More:

One of the Most Important Issues Facing All of us here in Mendocino County is Air Pollution from all sources of SMOKE between November and March each year.  Agriculture & Back Yard Burning during those months are taking their toll on the health of Mendocino County Residents.

You will find both articles and studies showing how air pollution increases health costs, shortens lives, and increases hospital visits.  Our children and grandchildren deserve to have their health protected by the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors and our elected City Council Members throughout Mendocino County.

We have been taking photographs of "smoke" air pollution sources in Mendocino County since 2008, and almost every year the air pollution is increasing from all "smoke" sources except fireplaces and woodstoves.  The worst sources of smoke are from ever-increasing agriculture and back yard burning.

We can all take action by working out an arrangement whereby wood waste from all sources is chipped and not burned.  It is time to protect our community and the health and longevity of our residents.  You will find information on the health effects from smoke and photographs of air pollution from backyard and agriculture burning in Mendocino County within the links above.  We encourage everyone to begin to work with the "smoke polluters" in finding a solution, other than burning, in order to clean up our air so that we can all live healthier lives.

Water Pollution:  Asphalt Plants May Pollute Local Rivers & Streams:

12. Section 13304(a) of the Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act in part states: “Any person who has discharged or discharges waste into the waters of this state in violation of any waste discharge requirement or other order or prohibition issued by a regional board or the state board, or who has caused or permitted, causes or permits, or threatens to cause or permit any waste to be discharged or deposited where it is, or probably will be, discharged into the waters of the state and creates, or threatens to create, a condition of pollution or nuisance, shall upon order of the regional board clean up the waste or abate the effects of the waste, or, in the case of threatened pollution or nuisance, take other necessary remedial action, including, but not limited to, overseeing cleanup and abatement efforts.”

ALERT – FIRE HAZARDS:  THE DEAD & DYING TREES IN MENDOCINO COUNTY

ARE WE PREPARED FOR FIRES IN THE AREAS WHERE MANY OF THESE DEAD & DYING TREES ARE LOCATED?

WHY ARE ENTIRE SUITES OF TREE & PLANT COMMUNITIES IN DECLINE?

Please note that some of the dying trees in these photographs are either dead or have been cut down...Lake Mendocino in Ukiah, as one example, is a location where enormous numbers of various types of trees have are dying, dead or have been cut down.  What is causing this tree decline?  (The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers blames everything on Sudden Oak Death even when there has not been a diagnosis of Oak SOD in the Ukiah Valley.)

Where you aware that there are Weather Modification Programs ongoing in the State of California and that Pacific Gas & Electric Company conducts some of those programs?

Do you know what impacts weather modification programs are having in Mendocino County and the watersheds that supply water to Lake Mendocino and other areas throughout the County?

Visit the Weather Modification Section of this Website for a NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration), listing of California weather modification programs.  How will these programs impact our water supplies and watersheds in the future?

NASA studies show that increasingly persistent jet contrails may turn into man-made clouds that are”…trapping warmth in the atmosphere and exacerbating global warming…” NASA goes on to state that “…any change in global cloud cover may contribute to long-term changes in Earth’s climate. Contrails, especially persistent contrails, represent a human-caused increase in the Earth’s cloudiness, and are likely to be affecting climate and ultimately our natural resources…”

What impacts are the increasing man-made cloud cover over Mendocino County having on tree and plant health, crop production, weather and climate, backyard gardens, and general rainfall totals?

DAS-40278-9 Corn: For Public Comment

U.S.D.A APHIS is also making available today a PPRA and a draft EA to address a request from Dow, Inc. seeking a determination of nonregulated status of its DAS-40278-9 corn. This corn has been genetically engineered to provide tolerance to 2,4-D and aryloxyphenoxypropionate (AOPP) acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitors, also known as “fop” herbicides.  DAS-40278-9 corn has been field tested in the major corn growing regions of the continental United States as well as Hawaii. APHIS’ risk assessment indicates that DAS-40278-9 corn is unlikely to pose a plant pest risk.  APHIS is making available for public comment the Dow petition for nonregulated status, APHIS’ PPRA and draft EA. These documents can be found at:

The public comment period will close on Feb. 27, 2012.
